Mexican visa from Haiti: how to get the appointment and what you need

For people applying for the visa at the Embassy of Mexico in Haiti, and for the relative in Mexico who handles the NUT. Here you will see how appointments open, what each visa asks for and what is paid to whom.

Last reviewed:

We are a private service. The appointment is free at citas.sre.gob.mx and you can do the procedure yourself. If you prefer our support, we charge for our service.

In short

  • With a Haitian passport you need a visa to travel to Mexico. The visitor visa without permission to work is free for Haitians (Embassy of Mexico in Haiti, September 14, 2026).
  • The other visas cost USD 56 and the 10-year visitor visa, USD 54 (Ley Federal de Derechos 2026). They are paid in cash on the day of the appointment.
  • There is a single office, in Pétion-Ville. It operates “de forma limitada” (in a limited way) and opens appointments once a month (notice of September 14, 2026).
  • With a NUT, the Embassy gives you 30 days to contact it and 6 months for the interview (NUT page, August 7, 2026).
  • The final decision belongs to the INM and is “inapelable” (final, with no appeal). Your passport stays at the Embassy until that decision (visa page, September 14, 2026).

Who needs the visa

With a Haitian passport, you need it. There are two exceptions for visits of less than 180 days, without working (Embassy, visitor visa, checked September 21, 2026):

  • a valid, current, multiple-entry visa from the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom or the Schengen area;
  • permanent residence in those countries or in Chile, Colombia or Peru.

These documents only exempt you for visits, not for living in Mexico. The visa types and the general rules are in the Mexican visa guide.

How to get the appointment yourself

The appointment is free and is requested in MiConsulado: citas.sre.gob.mx.

When appointments open

  • In the last week of each month, the Embassy asks MiConsulado to open slots for visas, legalizations and passports (visa page, September 14, 2026).
  • It announces the day and the time on its Facebook and X accounts (@EmbamexHaiti).
  • The date changes every month. Always confirm it on those accounts.

Which option to choose in MiConsulado

Your procedure Option in MiConsulado
NUT visa (INM authorization) «Visas con autorización del INM» (visas with INM authorization)
Visitor or student visa, without a NUT «Visas sin autorización del INM» (visas without INM authorization)
Legalizing certificates or other documents «Certificados, legalizaciones y visados» (certificates, legalizations and visas)
Mexican passport «Pasaportes» (passports)

If you arrive with an appointment for a different procedure, you will not be served (visa page, September 14, 2026).

Step by step

  1. Go to citas.sre.gob.mx on the day and at the time the Embassy announces.
  2. Choose the Embassy of Mexico in Haiti and the option for your procedure.
  3. Write your name exactly as it appears in your passport. If it is a NUT visa, the system asks for the number of the official letter.
  4. Make one appointment per person. For the SRE, appointments are «personales e intransferibles» (personal and non-transferable) (SRE, checked September 21, 2026).
  5. Keep the confirmation and check the list of documents for your visa on the Embassy’s page.

Visa with INM authorization (NUT)

The NUT is the number of the official letter with which the INM authorizes the interview at the Embassy. Your relative in Mexico or the person offering you a job requests it (NUT page, August 7, 2026).

If you are the relative in Mexico

  • You request the authorization at an INM office. For family unity it is requested by a Mexican citizen or a resident of Mexico; for a job offer, by an employer registered with the INM (Lineamientos, DOF July 25, 2025).
  • In 2026 it costs MXN 248 (INM fees 2026). The INM decides within a maximum of 20 business days (Lineamientos).
  • The appointment and the interview belong to your relative, at the Embassy. The name on the NUT must match the name in their passport.

Deadlines in Haiti

«…tiene 30 días para establecer contacto con la Embajada… la autorización tiene una vigencia de 6 meses para realizar su entrevista consular.»

(…you have 30 days to contact the Embassy… the authorization is valid for 6 months to hold your consular interview.) Embassy of Mexico in Haiti, NUT page, updated August 7, 2026.

  • Federal rules give the authorization 30 business days of validity (Lineamientos, DOF July 25, 2025). So do not let the 30 days the Embassy gives you to contact it go by. More detail in the NUT guide.
  • If the authorization is «próxima a vencer, expedida hace más de 5 meses» (about to expire, issued more than 5 months ago), you can request an extraordinary appointment by email to [email protected] (NUT page, August 7, 2026). The notice of September 14, 2026 mentions it only for the family unity NUT: if yours is for a job offer, confirm it with the Embassy.

On humanitarian grounds

A relative in Mexico can ask the INM for an authorization on humanitarian grounds, free of charge in 2026 (INM fees 2026). It is for relatives who do not qualify for family unity and who are in danger because of violence or a disaster, or have a serious illness (Lineamientos, procedure 9). The INM decides each case.

Visitor visa

  • If approved, it lasts 6 months and allows several entries (Embassy, visitor visa, checked September 21, 2026).
  • It is free with a Haitian passport. The 10-year one is not: it costs USD 54 (LFD 2026).
  • You must prove one of three things:
    1. Ties to Haiti (arraigo): a job held for 2 years and a property owned for 2 years.
    2. Solvency: the amounts in the table.
    3. An invitation letter from an institution.
Solvency What the Embassy publishes (checked September 21, 2026) Federal Lineamientos, 2026 UMA
Average balance in 3 months of bank statements 300 days of minimum wage: about USD 4,100 or 530,000 HTG 680 UMA: MXN 79,770.80
Monthly salary or income 100 days of minimum wage: about USD 1,400 or 180,000 HTG 220 UMA: MXN 25,808.20, with 1 year or more of employment
  • The Embassy’s page still uses the minimum wage rule. The Lineamientos already use the UMA, MXN 117.31 in 2026 (DOF January 9, 2026), which changes every February 1. Before gathering papers, confirm with the Embassy which figure applies.
  • The Embassy suggests not buying the plane ticket before you have the visa.

Legalizing Haitian documents

  • The documents you present must be legalized.
  • Handwritten Haitian certificates also need the attestation of the National Archives.
  • Each legalization costs USD 56 in 2026. The maximum is 5 documents per appointment (visa page, September 14, 2026; LFD 2026).
  • Legalization needs its own appointment, with the option «Certificados, legalizaciones y visados».

How much it costs in 2026

Item 2026 amount Source
Appointment in MiConsulado Free SRE
Visitor visa without permission to work, with a Haitian passport Free Embassy
NUT visa and other visas USD 56 LFD 2026
10-year visitor visa USD 54 LFD 2026
Permission to work as a visitor USD 321, on top of the visa LFD 2026
Legalization of one document USD 56 Embassy
INM authorization for family unity or a job offer (paid in Mexico) MXN 248 INM 2026
INM authorization on humanitarian grounds Free INM 2026

Visa fees are paid in cash, in dollars, on the day of the appointment. The Embassy does not accept applications or payments online (visa page, September 14, 2026).

If you live outside Haiti

  • You can apply for the visa at the embassy or consulate of Mexico in the country where you live, if you have legal stay there.
  • You must present the original document that proves that legal stay (Lineamientos, DOF July 25, 2025).
  • Each office has its own rules and its own appointment calendar. Check them on its page.
  • Guides by office: Colombia (in Spanish) and the consulates of Mexico in the U.S.
  • We also support visa procedures in other countries: write to us with your case.

What usually goes wrong

All of this is documented by the Embassy or the Lineamientos:

  • The wrong type of appointment. With an appointment for a different procedure you will not be served (visa page, September 14, 2026).
  • Details that do not match. The name on the NUT must match the one in the passport. If a detail does not match, the procedure is canceled and you have to start again with the INM (Lineamientos; NUT page).
  • An expired NUT. Once the authorization expires, the visa procedure cannot continue (Lineamientos).
  • Certificates that are not legalized, or handwritten certificates without the attestation of the National Archives (visa page).
  • False documents. Anyone who presents altered or false documents is placed on the immigration control lists, and the application does not proceed (Lineamientos).

If you prefer our support

What it includes

  • Guidance: which visa fits your case —visitor or NUT— and how the Embassy opens appointments.
  • A review of your documents before the appointment: that they are legalized, that the proof for your option is complete and that your name is written the same way in all of them.
  • Your appointment, of the right type and in the name of the person doing the procedure, with their details exactly as they appear in their passport. One person per appointment; we do not resell or transfer appointments.
  • Preparation for the interview: what it is like, what to bring and how the fees are paid: in cash and in dollars, on the day of the appointment.
  • Follow-up: if the Embassy cancels your appointment, we look for another one at no extra cost, and we stay with you until your procedure is complete.

What we need

  • The person’s details, exactly as they appear in their passport.
  • If it is a NUT visa, the number of the INM official letter.
  • Never the physical passport. We do not hold passports.

What you pay and to whom

  1. The appointment: free at citas.sre.gob.mx.
  2. The fees: paid directly to the Embassy, in cash and in dollars, on the day of the appointment. In 2026: visitor, free with a Haitian passport; NUT visa and other visas, USD 56; 10-year visitor, USD 54 (LFD 2026).
  3. Our service: our fees vary by procedure and case. Write to us and we will give you the cost of yours before we start.

What does not depend on us

  • No service can promise a date or the outcome of the procedure. The authority decides that.
  • The decision on the visa: the final decision belongs to the INM.
  • The interview: it is in person and mandatory (Lineamientos).
  • Entry into Mexico: the immigration authority decides it on arrival, even if you have a visa (Lineamientos).
  • That the Embassy keeps the appointment. If it cancels it, we look for another one at no extra cost.

What to bring on the day of the appointment

  • Your passport. It stays at the Embassy until the decision.
  • The confirmation of your appointment, of the type that matches your procedure.
  • If it is a NUT visa, the number of the INM official letter.
  • The photo and copies listed for your visa on the Embassy’s page.
  • Your documents, legalized. If your certificates are handwritten, with the attestation of the National Archives.
  • For the visitor visa, the proof for your option: ties to Haiti, bank statements or salary, or an invitation letter.
  • The fee in cash, in dollars, if your visa is not free.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Mexican visa cost in Haiti in 2026?

The visitor visa without permission to work is free with a Haitian passport. The NUT visa and the other visas cost USD 56, and the 10-year visitor visa, USD 54, under the Ley Federal de Derechos 2026. Visa fees are paid in cash, in dollars, on the day of the appointment, at the Embassy. The appointment at citas.sre.gob.mx is free.

When does the Embassy of Mexico in Haiti open appointments?

Once a month. According to its visa page (September 14, 2026), in the last week of each month the Embassy asks MiConsulado to open slots and announces the day and the time on Facebook and on X (@EmbamexHaiti). The date changes every month: confirm it on those accounts.

My NUT is about to expire. What do I do?

If the authorization was issued more than 5 months ago and is about to expire, the Embassy accepts a request for an extraordinary appointment by email to [email protected]. According to its NUT page (August 7, 2026), you have 30 days to contact it and 6 months for the interview. Its notice of September 14, 2026 mentions it only for the family unity NUT: if yours is for a job offer, confirm it with the Embassy.

Do I need a Mexican visa if I have a U.S. visa?

No, for a visit of less than 180 days without working, if your U.S. visa is valid, current and multiple-entry. The same applies to visas from Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom or the Schengen area, and to permanent residence in those countries or in Chile, Colombia or Peru. The exemption only applies to visits, not to living in Mexico.

Can I apply for the Mexican visa outside Haiti?

Yes, at the embassy or consulate of Mexico in the country where you live, if you have legal stay there. You present the original document that proves it, under the visa Lineamientos (DOF July 25, 2025). Each office has its own rules and appointment calendar.

Do I have to hand my passport to someone to get the appointment?

No. The passport is handed in only at the Embassy, on the day of the procedure, and it stays there until the INM decision. No one can ask you for it outside the Embassy; neither can we.

If the appointment is free, why pay Tramity?

It is not required: you can do the procedure yourself and get the appointment at citas.sre.gob.mx. Tramity is a private service, with no connection to the SRE, the INM or the Embassy. If you prefer our support —guidance, a review of your documents, the appointment and preparation for the interview— we charge for our service; the cost depends on your case and we give it to you before we start.

What happens if my visa is denied?

You can apply again: under the visa Lineamientos (DOF July 25, 2025), a denial does not prevent a new application. In Haiti, the final decision belongs to the INM and the Embassy describes it as final, with no appeal.
